Without the Hype

As you may have deciphered from the title of this article, I am not a big fan of HYPE when it comes to Network Marketing. Some people call this business MLM, Relationship Marketing, Referral Marketing, and a few other names. For the purpose of this blog, we will stick with the term Network Marketing.I love this industry. I am a believer in putting people at the free-throw line with the game winning shot to be made or missed. Some people take the shot, some people make the shot, and some people just hold the ball, while others never even pick up the ball in the first place. Leaders in this industry are not here to make other people successful. As important as support is and as necessary as encouragement is, it is still up to the individual to take the shot.Let me make it clear that I believe there is a time and a place for HYPE. For example, at a companies national convention, it is great to clap, shout, and even dance if you like. But in the day-to-day activities of Network Marketing, HYPE will usually turn off the very best candidates and turn on the ones that might not be the ones you really want. What do I mean by HYPE? Well, if you have been around this industry for very long, you have seen and heard HYPE. HYPE is not always just the words or information that is spoken, it is also very much the way the information is communicated. HYPE often includes words like "BEST", "GREATEST", and "RECORD BREAKING". HYPE will often have little or no way to be verified. It includes sales numbers that can't be checked, product stories of amazing healing from people in far away places, phrases like, "sales are exploding!", "incredible growth!" and "things are going crazy!"I am not a fan of this kind of HYPE and I think many other people are tired of it, too.
