The Top 3 Work at Home Disasters Just Waiting For You

The thought of making a good living with a work at home business or job is appealing to nearly everyone. It is hard to argue with working fewer hours and making more money. But, be careful! There are disasters waiting for every new work at home entrepreneur. There is one advantage to having been around the internet world for quite some time is that you get to see both the successes and failures of new work at home business owners. I can assure you that the failures far out-weigh the success, just as they do in the brick and mortar world. Here are the common threads in most online business failures.Disaster #1: Choosing The Wrong Niche Or BusinessThe very first decision you will need to make before starting your online business is selecting your business niche. What type of business will you be in? What are the products? Most newcomers select a product that they "think" is hot and will therefore lead to a lot of sales. Do not do this. The best way to choose your niche is to write down a list of things you truly enjoy or are quite knowledgeable in. Why? A very large part of online business involves writing. Marketing your business will consist largely of constructing websites, article marketing, forum participation, emailing, newsletters, autoresponder messages and much more. All of these involve writing. If you have very little interest in your selected niche, or know very little about it, you will find it quite difficult to write anything meaningful about it. Now I know that there are freelance writers who can assist you with this job, but hiring good authors is difficult and is typically an expense that newcomers are not willing to make. And rightly so. You will greatly improve your chances for success if you truly enjoy the niche you have selected.Disaster #2: Making AssumptionsMost new internet marketing folks are misled into believing running a successful work at home business is easy and simple. There are plenty of hucksters out there who may convince you that all you need is to buy THEIR technique and you will be on easy street. This just is not true.Thousands of years of history should be enough to convince us that WORK = PAY. Just because you have decided to work at home on the internet will not change this fact. Yes, it can be true that you will spend less hours working at home to earn the same amount of money as you can at a regular job. But there is work involved just the same.Disaster #3: Riding A Dead HorseOK. You have carefully selected your niche (which you absolutely love), set up your website and have started marketing the heck out of it. Yet you get no sales. Something is obviously wrong, but what? You start tweaking this and tweaking that and you still get no sales. This happens all the time. You are so in love with a niche that you find it impossible to let go of it. If you have done your niche homework the right way, have correctly identified your target customers and still get no sales, drop this niche. Or at the very least drop the product you are offering. Niches and products are simply tools to make money. If they are not doing the job, get new tools. Never continue riding a dead horse.
