It's Time to Take Back Our Economy

The massive achievements and accomplishments of the American people often pale in comparison to the devastation and pain that this Nation suffered during the Great Depression of the 30's. The most severe economic crisis of modern times shut down businesses, caused banks to fail and unemployment to soar. Pictures of breadlines are burned into the psychic make-up of this nation. The impact on the people and the nation was dark and devastating; the impact has also been enduring. In fact today we as a nation are traumatized as we face the recessionary effects of our day.Fifteen years of counseling people through devastating problems has revealed to me that in the face of a crisis, by and large and with few exceptions, the first response in a crisis is to "awful-ize and catastroph-ize." The focus is always the problem and its horrendous effects. The fear is always "this is it...the thing that will take me down and my life will never be the same!" Devastation is the threat while there is little hope that there is a solution; there is no thought that this issue could be the springboard to a better life. This reminds me of the story of the canary that found himself trapped in the cage with a serpent that was only inches away. The bird saw the threat of his impending death as he focused on the snake's open mouth and ultra-sharp fangs. He failed to recognize that he was next to the door of the cage and it was wide open! In the midst of what appeared to be certain doom the canary could not see the open door to an opportunity for escape and he forgot that he could fly!Today as the recession intensifies and the threat of an economic depression looms over us, we cannot but reflect on the devastation of the Great Depression. Is that where we are headed? Is this the national blow that will destroy us? As the guy on the Allstate commercial says, "why not let this be the recession that Defines Us?" There is value in learning from history so that we do not have to repeat it. Since the Titanic went down ship-builders have learned the importance of life-boats, lots of them! Eighty-one-years of technology have evolved since the great depression. Today we have options!I will say without equivocation that today America's greatest economic asset is the pulsating force of the spirit of the entrepreneur. To compliment this force, the technology of leveraging our time and money to create exponential financial rewards is thriving in the face of economic threats. Even with lay-offs and fewer traditional jobs, online/home-base businesses are thriving. There are as many as 80-million internet searches daily in North America alone for topics related to online/home-base businesses. That is 80-million potential customers/sales a day! Be Encouraged! The serpent's mouth may be open and you may feel the force of impending doom, but the door is open to a whole new opportunity to maximize the value of your life and destiny! Be Bold! Walk through the door. It is Your Time to Fly!
