What Does it Mean to Be Coachable?

What does it mean to be "coachable" in MLM, and why is it important?One of the many disagreements I had with my sponsor in a former MLM business involved duplication and being coachable. He was telling me about the approach of a very successful person in our company, and one of the things she would do is call her new distributors daily to check in with them. I told him I could never call people that often unless they asked me to, because I consider that to be harassment!I have always been a self-starter and a hard worker, and in my former career I was both a team leader and a supervisor. I was accustomed to being left alone to do my job, and in truth most of my supervisors could not have told me how to do my job even if they wanted to! When I wanted to learn how to do something new, I would enroll in a seminar or read a book or manual. If something did not work as I understood it to, or if I needed help, I would ask. It never occurred to me until recently that some people don't operate the same way!My sponsor said that since he wanted to be just as successful as this other person, he thought he needed to do exactly what she was doing (and suggested I follow suit!) But that didn't sit well with me so I continued doing things my own way. Then my sponsor won a contest and went on a cruise with many leaders in the company (that lady included) and there were several educational presentations given. To his amazement, he heard several different approaches. This confused him! He truly thought all of the leaders must be doing the same things.What I now know, is that I could not duplicate what this woman was doing because of my personality type. As I observe more and more people with this understanding, I see that most people tend to assume that in order to duplicate their success anyone they coach must exactly mirror their actions. Yet each of the four personality types has definite strengths and weaknesses. While it is good to try to improve upon your weaknesses when possible, it is really much easier to figure out how to achieve the same result using your strengths!What I now think being coachable means is:
Learn about the personality types and identify yours
Find several people who have achieved what you want
Learn their strategies and understand why it works for their personality type
Pick the strategies that will work for YOU!
Everyone is actually a blend of all four personality types. Just because you are a "green" that doesn't mean you can't use some of the strategies a "blue" would use. If a particular strategy doesn't feel "wrong" to you, try it. Constant personal growth is something we should all strive for. But do not think for one minute that you must do everything exactly the same way as your sponsor or mentor in order to succeed! Do NOT believe them if they tell you that!There are certain traits that anyone who wants to be really successful should develop and certain weaknesses they should overcome. Napoleon Hill does a great job of discussing this in chapter 7 of "Think And Grow Rich." And there are certain things everyone who desires success in MLM should do, such as:
Find a mastermind group of mentors
Attend company events
Dial in to conference calls and participate (speak up!)
Work on your business consistently
Work on self development consistently
Use third-party validation
Point people to resources, don't be the expert all of the time
Some of these will be outside the comfort zone of some people, so they need to work up to doing it! If you do it, guess what, your team members will too! But in some cases they will need a different approach and it may take them longer to grow into certain behaviours.Whenever you want to accomplish something new, it is advisable to coached and mentored. Just recognize that not everyone gets to the top by the same road!Wouldn't the world be boring if we were all the same?

You want to be using an autoresponder system like Aweber or Getresponse, then you only have to write your emails once and set up when you want them to be sent out. Over the days and weeks you can keep in contact with your list and continually offer them value and begin to build a positive relationship with them (don't keep trying to sell stuff though!) Not everyone will want to do this or indeed have the time, but I like to get on the phone with my new prospect to help the relationship building process.3) You need to keep delivering great information and valuable training to your subscribers through your emails. You will often get your own prospect training website with a good system which will be value packed with video training and ebooks. By providing continual value your emails are going to be opened far more often.4) Sometimes you should offer your prospects a product to purchase. Please make sure you know that the product offers great value for money, selling bad quality products will erode your reputation in the eyes of your prospects. As you have been building a relationship with your prospect by giving great free training you are going to get more sales because people will have come to trust you.5) Gradually over time you must be giving your leads exposure to your main mlm opportunity and recommending that they take a look. You can have links to company reviews, videos, webinar invitations etc... It's important not to overdo this; but because you are giving so much value to your prospect they are going to be much more likely to take a look at any business opportunity that you recommend.You will quickly become an expert to your subscribers because of all the great stuff you have taught them! Which is branding you as a leader and positioning you for success. Remember that someone who is looking to join a business will want to join with someone that they like and trust. Already the internet is swamped with replicated company websites and everyone expecting that if they just send people to them they will get loads of signups, the reality is that you would be lucky to get any at all!

I see some lessons we can learn from the show and that we can apply to our business.PresenceTo be a star, you need a strong presence. Last week, Alex Lambert was sent home because he didn't have this quality. He looked awkward and uncomfortable on the stage.In business, presence means leadership and exposure. If you don't know how to get exposure, you will need to learn how. If you are just starting out in the business, you may not be the true leader yet, and you need to first believe you can be. Knowledge and experience will never come if you do nothing. Start learning which will build your confidence, and act as if. Leaders connect with others, and are able to magnetize their followers.Alex had a great voice and a nice niche, but he failed to connect with his audience.Targeting and MaterialOn American Idol, you need to pick the right songs and sing them well, and I don't mean just a good vocal. Are you posting someone else's links and quotes on your Twitter and Facebook? Are you publishing borrowed articles on your blog? There's nothing wrong with any of this as long as you attach the author information, but make sure you have your original content too. A leader doesn't become a leader by always borrowing from others, they are resourceful on their own. When you write an article, don't just paraphrase another material, make it your own. Say it in your own words and put your own spin on it. A little personality and opinions wouldn't hurt either, when done properly.Remember when Taylor Hicks beat Katharine McPhee in the final? His own unique style was stronger than Katharine.LikabilityLast year, Kris Allen won over Adam Lambert because Kris was more likable.You want to have your own style, but you want a big enough market to be profitable. When people see your photos and videos and read your story, you become more real and your audience will get to know you. People who resonate with you will follow you, and you will build your own niche.Some say both Adam and Chris Daughtry were a bit cocky.Being humble goes a long way.
