When the thirty days were up there was a corporate conference call... and the company didn't even resemble the company we were part of.The network marketing component was completely gone, the format of the program had completely changed and many of the products we represented were gone as well. It became apparent that they had major financial problems and our downlines were gone overnight.The emotions ran the spectrum for the next 90 days. Disbelief, sadness, depressed, anger and sadness again. If you've never gone through this, especially with people you were close to that were also achieving their dream, it's pretty darn devastating to say the least.That point in time was a breakthrough for me. I decided that I would never again depend on one company for my income. I would build multiple streams of income and learn to market online using lead generating systems so I was always in cash flow and always had more leads that I could possibly handle.In hindsight, had that not happened I wouldn't be where I am today and while it was really a tough lesson, it was a critical lesson on my journey to building residual income the right way. And the same applies. But let me show you how much risk you face and you determine if it is. Why are medical and legal costs so high? Because they have to take out protection because one person could kill their business because of malpractice.Now, no matter what business you get into, if it is in a store front or on the internet, the risk is all the same. Now, like I began to say earlier, it is based on what knowledge you have on the business you are starting. Now, all business owners need to know how to market. I do not like to say sell, because really the best businesses do not sell, but the market.When you are selling, you are trying to get someone to pay for something they do not want. Now, in any business you want to profile your customers, so make sure you know what the customer profile. No matter what your product is, it is not meant for everyone. Well, no matter what my occupation, I have always found that starting the day with exercise puts me in a good mood and gives me energy. It also stimulates thought!I have been reading "Go Givers Sell More" by Bob Burg and John David Mann (great book!) In the chapter on maturity, they mention that being a professional means you work even when you don't feel like it. In a traditional job, you may be able to call in sick and still make money. But if you play hooky too often you'll get fired, and with good reason since you are letting other people down and making them do your work. In MLM, you normally don't get fired for lack of results (although it can happen so read your policies and procedures!) You might let some people down, you won't earn money, but probably nobody will complain. But we are doing this to make money, right?The analogy used in the book which I truly love, is that if your foot falls asleep you have not lost the foot. It's still there, you just need to get it moving. The funny thing is, once the feeling is back you will forget all about that foot being asleep. And that is usually the case if you will just get started doing what you know you need to do.I always find this to be true with exercise. Once I pop in the DVD and hit "play" I always finish the workout. Once I pick up the phone and dial, if the person answers, I must talk! Once I start writing about an idea, I get in "the flow" and the words just keep coming. When I start searching for new friends, I see interesting faces and get excited about getting to know them.Reading or listening to self development material is probably the easiest thing for me to do when I don't feel motivated.
