While researching the company I was not only impressed by the great deals that were being offered but also the simplicity of arranging travel. I'd like to offer a third party review of the network marketing company Market America. I am in no way affiliated with Market America.I've actually known of the company for many years. Their site said they were founded in 1992. That is probably when I first heard of them. They launched the company with a huge marketing campaign that put their name on everyone's radar.Market America was responsible for the phrase "unfranchise". This was a term that referred to a business owner who had a business but not a franchise. It was a really clever phrase and introduction to what network marketing is all about.The company today is a bit different than it was back in 1992. Today, you join for free and get discounts on products you purchase for yourself. In addition, when you get others to join and become customers, you'll earn ½% on their qualified purchases.As I always do when I research a company, I looked up the company name followed by the word "scam." I want to see the negative that people are saying about the company.The first page I came to spoke of Market America's payout structure, so I decided to investigate and see what I could find. I began on the corporate site. The first thing I learned was that Market America is partnered with over 3000 retailers. This means you truly can buy just about anything through your own "unfranchise" store.I next read that you can earn 2%-35% on qualifying purchases. Nowhere did it say what constitutes a qualifying purchase. I searched everyone on the corporate site and then used a few different search engines to search for "Market America compensation plan." I walked away still not knowing how they pay their distributors.If you believe this is the right opportunity for you, I would ask to see in writing the compensation plan. I've read that there are videos, I would not accept a video, I would ask to see in writing what the compensation plan is.I ran into the same trouble looking for how team commissions are paid out or calculated. There is just no information available out there with simple web searches. What the corporate site says is "when they sign up as a customer and list you as the referral, we'll pay you ½% cash back on their qualified purchases!" But again, I can find no information on what the word "qualified" means.I personally am a bargain shopper. I want the highest quality product I can get for the lowest possible price. I did not comparison shop on the Market America site. If you are considering signing up, I would look at your most recent purchases and then see if those items are available through Market America and if they are, how they compare price-wise to the price you paid elsewhere.In all of my searching, I'm not sure I came across a distributor website. Based on all of this, I would ask the following questions if you are considering joining:1. What exactly is the compensation plan?2. How would I offer products to someone else?3. What is a qualifying purchase?I believe after you have these three questions answered, you'll know if this is the right company for you to join.

Think of the change we can make. The way we clean our cars, we can use a waterless cleaning product. There wouldn't be any soap suds running down the driveway and into our water supply anymore. All of these products can be changed and you wouldn't be spending any more money than you already are, you would just be switching your shopping habits.After the baby steps, we can take bigger steps and switch our light bulbs out and change our shower heads to more green friendly ones. The term multi-level marketing has been around since the 1800's. The two names you might be familiar are Henry Heinz and Asa Candler. Heinz sold ketchup and pickles, while Candler sold a cola syrup. Both men began building teams of other sales people, paying them a commission to go out and sell these products. The more men they recruited to sell, the more volume they created and the more money everyone made.By the early 1900's, three companies were started: Watkins, Fuller Brush and Avon. All three companies are still around today and still helping people like you and I become independent business owners in the world of multi-level marketing. Today, there are hundreds of companies out there and new companies being started each and every year. While I am very aware that today there are also many scams out there, this article refers to legitimate multi-level marketing with a true product and true sales involved.It is this very question that can help you answer whether something is legitimate or possibly a scam. What does it take to make money? If you recruit one hundred people who never bought or sold anything, would you make money? If the answer is yes, you might be looking at a scam. Thinking back to the 1800's, no money was made unless ketchup and pickles were sold. That same concept is still true today. No money should be made by anyone unless a true product is sold to an end use consumer.Looking at the three companies I mentioned from the early 1900's, you have true products being bought and sold. Watkins sells a line of seasonings and spices, Fuller Brush sells a line of household cleaning products and Avon sells a line of cosmetics. Real people shop for and buy these products every day.J. Paul Getty was known for his quote "It's better to have the opportunity to make 1% of one hundred peoples' efforts then 100% of your own." This is true in multi-level marketing also. Think of a grocery store. The manufacturer sells the product to the grocery chain. The manufacturer makes a profit. The grocery store then sells the product to the consumer. The grocery store now makes a profit on this same product. In some cases, say a Little League concession stand, the Little League now takes this very same product and they too make a profit by selling it to the game watcher. One product, three different groups making a profit.This is what multi-level marketing is. A company manufactures a product. That company sells the product to the sales distributor. That sales distributor then sells the product to the end user. In multi-level marketing, the distributor also has the opportunity to build a team of sales people. In return for building a team of sales distributors, the company will pay the original distributor a small stipend for bringing in more sales to the company through their team.In a true legitimate MLM set up, the recruiter should be training and mentoring their team to help everyone create more sales. Multi-level marketing has been around well over one hundred years. It's a legitimate way to earn money as long as real products are being bought and sold.

In this article, I'm going over the differences of running your business in MLM versus Top Tier Sales.This is part 2 of a 4 part series on MLM or Top Tier Direct Network Marketing. If this is the first one you have read, I invite you to view part 1.Networking Multilevel marketing is usually about getting people together, networking. You always start with the low hanging fruit. So start by selling to your family members, they are usually the easiest because they care about you and want you to succeed.Then it may be home parties, a night out on the town, just any way to get a few people together to sell them your product and/or opportunity. Once they get someone involved, the intent is for them to start their own business and create a down line. Depending on the company's compensation plan, the sponsor may get residuals from them.Push or Pull?MLM generally uses push methods, when people have a party, they know they are probably going to sell something. However, once they are successful, they get their new car or whatever the company does and people are drawn to their obvious success. This is a pull method.I personally know of someone that had their home in a tour of homes and recruited people from that when they saw what she had earned from doing well with the business. That person didn't even have to say a word. Their possessions said it all.Top TierIn Top Tier Sales, because the price tag on your product is much greater, parties aren't the best way to go. In getting started, if people need a lesser expensive medium, they will go to the Internets free to low cost ways of pulling in those interested. In Top Tier, push and pull methods are used more widely than MLM.For example, paid advertising, sponsored links, is a push tactic as people are actively searching for your opportunity. So to push your opportunity once they get to your website is appropriate.Pull StrategiesIf you are doing the free to low cost ways, these are pull strategies. Meaning you are marketing to cold and warm markets, trying to lure people in that may not have been interested in the first place. This is done through writing articles, doing videos and being active on social media. Once you get their attention, don't send them directly to your sales page (website). At this point they may not be ready and may get turned off. Rather take them to your blog to get to know more about you. Then if they choose to visit your website, they will know what to expect.In Top Tier, you want to make sure you are not doing just one form of advertising. If you are doing sponsored advertising, make sure you are still writing articles and doing videos. This will give you credibility and real estate on the Internet as those researching you and your opportunity will be more impressed.As you can see, growing your business in MLM and Top Tier are quite a bit different. Yes some ways may overlap, but one major thing to consider is your ROI. If you are in MLM, selling vitamins. Are you going to get a good ROI if you are paying $4.00 every time someone clicks on your ad on the Internet? In Top Tier is it definitely worth it if you have a high converting website. This is because the commissions are a lot higher in Top Tier than MLM which ultimately attracts a different person.
